Ear pinning – Otoplasty

An ear pinning procedure brings the ears into their aesthetically correct shape and position.

Appointment

Indication

Protruding ears are caused by a malformation of the ear cartilage, which is of a purely aesthetic nature.

Treatment

During an ear correction (also known as otopexy or otoplasty), an incision is made behind the ear to correct the missing or insufficient fold in the upper part of the pinna.

A piece of skin is removed and part of the ear cartilage is reshaped and fixed with stitches. Sometimes a small piece of the auricular cartilage has to be removed.

Asymmetries are of course taken into account during the operation and corrected if possible.

Ear correction for children

The growth process of the auricle is complete from around the age of five. Ear pinning in children is possible from this point onwards. In most cases, the child itself provides the indication by expressing the desire for an ear correction.

Result

The results of an an ear pinning procedure are visible immediately, although the swelling can last for several weeks to months.

Aftercare

To protect the healing ears, a headband must be worn at night for the first 4 weeks.

An ear correction can significantly improve your well-being.
