Indication

Although scarring is largely based on genetic factors, suturing technique and scar management are critical for optimal results.

During the early healing phase, scars are typically raised, somewhat hard, and may be reddish to purple in color, which is normal and usually lasts up to three months. Over a period of one to two years, the scars mature into a more stable condition.

However, with excessive fibroblast activity, scars can become thick or grow beyond their boundaries, especially in darker skin types. In such cases, special treatments and proactive measures are taken to reduce such scarring.

Schöne Nahttechnik

Meticulous suturing technique is a central part of a plastic surgeon’s training. By selecting high-quality sutures, careful handling of the tissue and precise placement of the incisions, we can positively influence scar formation. Many specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery also learn (super) microsurgery during their training and carry out reconstructive operations, including procedures on children, which require the highest level of precision.

UrgoTouch®-Laser

The UrgoTouch® Laser stands out from traditional dermatological lasers and offers a unique and revolutionary approach to scar management. It is used in a single session during surgery and alters the inflammatory phase of scar healing. By gently increasing skin temperature, the laser modulates the inflammatory process, resulting in more balanced collagen synthesis and can significantly improve scar treatment results.

Microneedling

Medical microneedling and radiofrequency microneedling are both minimally invasive and suitable for all skin types. They stimulate the body to remodel scar tissue. When used correctly, the skin naturally heals the micro-injuries by producing the appropriate amount of collagen. This process can result in a reduction in scars as well as an improvement in skin tone and texture. Devices and rollers for home use with a shallower penetration depth (up to 0.5 mm) can be used one to three times a week.

To enhance the effect, nanofat, PRP and stem cell exosomes can be added to the needling treatment. There are legal restrictions in Switzerland on the use of your own fat and human cell-based products, which I would be happy to explain to you about in a consultation.

Stammzell-Exosomen

Stem cell exosomes protect skin cells by providing antioxidant signals and growth factors. This combats oxidative stress and repairs damage, which improves skin quality and can reduce excessive scarring.

PRP

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) delivers high concentrations of growth factors that can accelerate healing and regulate inflammation. It is a quick and easy procedure that only requires a small blood sample.

Nanofett

Nanofat transplantation has established itself as a method of scar treatment that enables significant improvement in skin and scar structure. By using LipoCube™ technology, this minimally invasive treatment offers high safety and is a very good scar therapy option for plastic surgeons.

Narbenmassage

Scar massage is a crucial part of daily scar treatment. It is recommended to begin massage approximately two weeks after surgery, gradually increasing pressure until the scar pales or an untolerable level of pain is reached. Non-skin-irritating oils, ointments or creams can be used. In areas close to bone, the scar can be safely massaged against the support to maximize the effect. Scar massage makes the scar softer and flatter.

Silikon

Silicone gel and scar tape are effective at keeping scar tissue moist during the healing period. I recommend starting use about two weeks after surgery and continuing for at least three months. The moisturizing effect helps scars heal better, fibroblast activity is reduced and scars can become flatter and more elastic.

Sonnenschutzmittel

Sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 50 should be applied to all exposed scars, especially in the first year, to prevent hyperpigmentation. Mature white scars are also sensitive to UV light and should ideally be protected. UV exposure persists year-round, even on cloudy days, with peak levels at higher elevations, in summer, and on sunny days in the snow or on the water.

Kortison und Strahlentherapie

Immunomodulating cortisone injections and radiation therapy are treatment options for hypertrophic scarring and keloids, which can occur as benign scar tissue tumors.
