What is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition. It manifests itself in the form of pimples, blackheads, cysts and pustules and occurs particularly on the face, chest and back. Whilst acne is often associated with puberty, it can also occur in adulthood. In severe cases, it can affect the structure of the skin and leave scars.
Acne causes
The main cause of acne is excessive sebum production, which leads to clogged pores. This allows bacteria to multiply and cause inflammation. Hormone fluctuations, such as those that occur during the menstrual cycle, are common triggers. In addition, factors such as stress, an unbalanced diet, unsuitable skincare products and environmental pollution can also favour the development of acne.
Skin changes with acne
Acne can appear in different forms. Blackheads and whiteheads form when pores become clogged, appearing as small dark or white spots. Red, inflamed bumps without pus are called papules, while pustules are pimples containing visible pus. In cystic acne, larger, painful nodules develop beneath the skin, which can cause deeper inflammation.
Modern acne treatments
To effectively treat acne and achieve long-lasting clear skin, we rely on a combination of modern therapeutic approaches. For a clearer, smoother complexion, we offer individually tailored medical skincare that gently cleanses the skin and regulates sebum production. In addition, chemical peels, bespoke Universkin™ serums, and medical microneedling help reduce blemishes and improve acne scars.
Modern treatments such as Forever Clear BBL® target acne-causing bacteria and help normalise sebum production. Morpheus8™ combines microneedling with radiofrequency to stimulate collagen and elastin production deep within the skin, visibly smoothing scars. Sculptra® promotes natural collagen formation and restores volume, making it ideal for depressed scars. Deep-acting skin boosters provide intensive hydration and refine the skin’s texture for lasting results.
Prevention and care
In addition to professional treatments, consistent skincare plays a crucial role in preventing acne. The skin should be gently yet thoroughly cleansed to remove excess sebum and impurities without causing irritation. Products containing salicylic acid can help unclog pores and reduce inflammation. In addition, a balanced diet, adequate hydration, and avoiding nicotine contribute to minimising skin problems.
