Nose job – rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty improves the function and shape of the nose and harmonises facial aesthetics.

Indication
The nose is the central feature of the face and can lead to aesthetic or functional impairments due to its size, shape or misalignment. Only a few noses are considered perfect. Noses that are too large, too long or have prominent nasal humps are often reasons for a nose correction (rhinoplasty). In addition to aesthetic problems, there are often medical indications such as breathing difficulties due to a crooked nasal septum. Correcting the nose therefore offers a solution for both: improving the appearance and function.
Treatment
Rhinoplasty is a demanding operation that must be performed with millimetre precision. For a lasting result, rhinoplasty requires a comprehensive aesthetic and functional analysis, precise planning and the use of optimised technique.
Rhinoplasty takes about 2 to 4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. It can either be performed on an outpatient basis or with a short stay in a private clinic. During the operation, the bone and cartilage framework is reshaped. The nose is then stabilised with internal and external nasal splints.
Aftercare and result
The inner and outer nasal splints are removed after about a week. It takes a few months for swelling to subside and the final result is seen after about a year.
It is our pleasure to discuss the various techniques with you and to help you achieve a beautiful nose.

Frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty
Where are the scars after rhinoplasty?
The operation can be performed open or closed (endonasal). With the closed method, all scars are hidden inside the nose, whereas with the open technique a small incision is made under the tip of the nose (columella). This method is particularly suitable for complex rhinoplasties as it provides a better overview of the anatomy.
Which nasal structures are harmonised?
The correction takes several nasal structures into account, including the tip of the nose, bridge of the nose, root of the nose, nostrils, nasal septum and airways. Ethnic characteristics are also taken into account in order to preserve the naturalness and character of the nose.
What is the so-called “preservation technique” for rhinoplasty?
In selected cases, a particularly gentle technique (preservation rhinoplasty) can be used in which important nasal structures remain intact and do not have to be reconstructed. This technique also preserves the natural lines on the bridge of the nose.
Can I choose the shape of my nose myself?
Yes, but only to a limited extent. Your wishes will be taken into account during the planning stage. However, it is important that the new shape matches your facial features and that the function of the nose is retained.
What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
In addition to general risks such as discomfort, bruising and delayed healing, temporary swelling may occur. In rare cases, breathing problems or aesthetic irregularities may occur, which may require subsequent correction.
When is a revision operation performed?
In rare cases, a revision (correction surgery) may be necessary if irregularities or deformities remain after healing. However, this should take place at the earliest 1 to 2 years after the first operation, as the regeneration of the nasal lymphatic vessels and scar maturation take a long time. A premature revision is therefore not recommended.
Why is it important that your first rhinoplasty is successful?
After an unsuccessful rhinoplasty, it is particularly difficult to achieve a satisfactory result. That is why we always strive for the best possible result, regardless of the duration of the operation. This strategy helps us to minimise the number of revision operations.
What do I need to consider before and after a rhinoplasty?
Of course, we will provide you with detailed instructions that you should follow before and after a rhinoplasty. You will also find general recommendations for pre- and post-operative care in the “For patients – resources” section.
When will I be socially presentable again?
Bruising and most of the swelling usually disappears after 2 weeks.
When can I exercise again?
Strenuous physical activity and sport should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
How much does a rhinoplasty cost?
An open rhinoplasty costs from 12 000 CHF and a closed rhinoplasty from 9 000 CHF. We would be happy to discuss the exact costs in a personal consultation.
Are the costs of a nose correction covered by health insurance?
Aesthetic nose corrections are not covered by health insurance. In the case of functional problems such as breathing difficulties or accident-related injuries, the costs may be partially covered.
